Overview
The Metra 70-8901 connects an aftermarket receiver to the original radio wiring in compatible Subaru vehicles. Its adapter plugs into the factory radio connector, leaving that connector wiring intact. Color-coded leads on the other end connect or solder to the new receiver to provide radio power and the specified four-speaker connection.
Choose the other installation parts for your Subaru
The receiver may also require a dash kit or antenna adapter. If retaining steering-wheel audio controls, navigation, video or other original features is part of the installation, determine whether an additional interface is needed for the vehicle. The wiring harness alone does not verify that retention.

Equipment and installation qualifications
- Non-amplified factory audio is required for Subaru Baja 2003–2006, Forester 1998–2013, Impreza 1993–2011, Legacy 1995–2009 and Outback 2000–2009.
- Forester 2009–2013 requires the DVD-based factory navigation system. Impreza 2008–2011 requires factory navigation.
- Legacy and Outback 2005–2009 must be 2.5i models without automatic climate control.
